The water's finally warming up and the docks are filling back in. You can feel the season turning over. This is the first issue of Around the Lake, a short weekly note about what's happening on and around the lake: the events worth driving in for, where to eat, who to know, and the little things that make summer up here feel like summer up here.

Live music on the corners and in front of the shops downtown. The easiest, most charming way to kick off a summer Friday night.

Produce, baked goods, fresh-cut flowers, and a local musician in the background. Downtown Petoskey's runs through late September.

A reader's Petoskey hit list making the rounds locally: Mighty Fine Pizza (takeout or delivery), City Park Grill (the salmon is local), The Meat Market (smoked everything), Petoskey Pretzel Co., and The Noggin Room for pub food. Over in Boyne City, the Boyne City Tap Room just rolled out its summer drink menu. 🍻
