🌊 Around the Lake
Issue 02 · Sunday, June 7, 2026 · Your weekly Northern Michigan dispatch
Morning, Walloon ☀️

This is the week summer actually starts up here. Boyne City turns its streets over to live music on Friday, the winery pavilion is back on Thursday nights, and the lake is finally warm enough that the early swims don't make you regret it. Good week to be on the water.

Here's what's worth driving in for, what's coming, and where to eat. If I missed something, just hit reply.

📍 Around the Lake This Week
🎸 Stroll the Streets opens for the season, Boyne City
Friday, June 12 · 6 to 9pm · Downtown Boyne City

Opening night of the four-block street party that runs every Friday into early September. Ten or so musicians set up on the corners and in front of the shops, kids run around, and dinner downtown turns into a whole evening. This is the easy one to plan a Friday around.

🍷 Tunes at Walloon, Walloon Lake Winery
Thursday, June 11 · 6 to 8pm · 3149 Intertown Rd

Live music in the covered pavilion every Thursday all summer, rain or shine. Bring a lawn chair, wine's available there. A short drive from the village and an easy midweek reset.

🍻 Happy hour and music at Walloon Watershed
Wednesday and Thursday · 4 to 6pm, music from 6

The midweek spot right in the village. Happy hour from 4, live music kicking off around 6 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Walkable if you're staying close to the water.

🐝 Pollinator garden planting, Walloon Lake Association
Tuesday, June 9 · 10am to noon · Wildwood Harbor Nature Area · Free

A morning of putting native plants in the ground for the local bees and butterflies. No experience needed, just show up. A nice low-key way to spend a few hours and meet the people who look after the lake.

🥕 Farmers markets are rolling
Petoskey (Fri, 8:30am to 1pm) · Boyne City and Harbor Springs (Wed and Sat)

Produce, baked goods, cut flowers, a musician in the background. Petoskey's market is on Howard and Michigan downtown and runs into late September.

🍽️ Where to Eat

Two right on the water in the village this week:

Barrel Back

Lakeside patio, house-smoked and wood-fired, 23 beers on tap. Lunch and dinner seven days a week, and happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 3 to 6. First come, first served, so go early on a warm night.

Walloon Lake Inn

The fine-dining room that's been on the lake since 1891. Open 5 to 9pm, and the three-course $60 menu from 5 to 6 is the move if you want the full thing without the full check. Reservations worth making.

💭 One More Thing

First real heat of the year lands Monday. If you've been waiting to get the dock fully in or the boat running, this is the weekend. Then Tuesday's storms wash the pollen off everything for you.

That's the lake this week. Reply and tell me what I missed, an event or a new spot or a shoutout, and it'll make the next issue. See you on the water. 🌊
